Vaitheeswaran Kovil is a sacred healing temple where Lord Shiva, as the divine physician, healed Mars (Angaragan), and continues to offer spiritual and physical remedies.
According to Hindu mythology, Mars suffered a severe ailment and sought healing at Vaitheeswaran Kovil. Lord Shiva, manifested as the divine healer, cured him with the aid of his consort Parvathi.
The temple's name, Pullirukku Velur, symbolizes the worship of key deities. It is believed that Uma, in the form of Thaiyal Nayagi, brought a powerful healing herb here, enhancing its reputation for curing ailments.
Lord Murugan, represented by Selva Muthukumaraswamy, is honored with special rituals during the Karthigai star. The temple is revered for its connection to Mars, with sacred rituals for healing.
The temple operates from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Major festivals include Skanda Shashti, Angaragan's appearance every Tuesday, and Karthigai, among others.
